A KJ Kinda Day

There's no school today for the students, and, consequently, no school today for me. So today I decided to make a list of all of the things I've been wanting/needing to do, and I set out to do them.

The first thing on the agenda was to do something about the hair. Besides the two-tonedness of it (also known as "roots to the max"), yesterday I looked at it and decided that the time had come, and it had to go.

My criteria:
1) Cut out as much of the old colour as possible.
2) Make it something easy to grow out.
3) Make it easy to deal with for the hairstyling-impaired (ie me).
4) Not too short as Hubby really prefers my hair longer.

In the "before" picture, you can see just how I felt about my mop. I know the "after" picture is a little hard to see, but the mirror I used is from the early 20th century, I think, so it's a little blurry (not to mention, being in my house, dusty). The colour isn't all gone, but within a month or two, it will be.

After that, I headed out to Paws On Scrapbooking, a local scrapbook store that I'd never managed to visit before. (It's located in someone's home, and the store hours are a bit limited.) They really have a lot of cool things in there! (There is also a border collie in residence, so what's not to love? I didn't meet said pup, but I could hear him greet me, and that alone made me smile.)

After picking up a punch and the Spring issue of Canadian Scrapbooker there, I headed back in town to do something I'd been dreading.

Michaels' corporate office has done away with the classroom program in all of its stores, so I was being terminated as an instructor as of Monday.

So I went in to clean out my locker, which, I noticed, had already been done for me.

No worries -- I was feeling guilty taking up space when they've hired so many new people, and all I had in there was a packet or two of Crystal Light. I would've liked to have kept the pins from my apron, though. *pout*

I took a picture of the only indicator of my ever having worked there -- my swipe card for the time clock -- and then I headed out.

After looking around and buying a couple of little things at Michaels (using my instructor discount for the last time), I then went up the hill to lunch.

Montana's Cookhouse just opened here on Monday, and since my former manager at Michaels is now the manager at Montanas, I decided to break the "never try out a brand-new restaurant" rule. So I got there just ahead of the crowd at 11:30 and ordered my personal litmus test. My favourite food in the world is nachos, and how their nachos fared on the KJ Scale would determine how often I'd visit.

Oh. My. Goodness.

Let's just say I've found a second home. And that was even before I noticed that the "tablecloths" had rubberstamped paw prints on them, or that I had crayons so I could draw all over the paper. (I had my magazine with me and it kept me occupied -- otherwise I might've put those crayons to good use!

In short, Montanas is fun, cozy, and friendly. The food is really good and the portions are quite generous. (I boxed up half the nachos because I wanted to try dessert too, and there was no way I could eat all of both!) And, to put the cherry on top of my sundae of happiness, Montanas serves Diet Pepsi! Woo-hoo!

So now I'm home, and the weather is crappy, but I don't really care because Zaph, Piper and I are going to go curl up and watch TV, look at scrapbooking lay-outs, and/or take a nap.

Because we can.
