I'm sitting in a study carrel, on the top floor of the university library. The picture is of the view of where the Kennebecasis and St. John Rivers meet, from the window just beyond my left arm. This is one of my favourite spots on the entire campus.
After fifteen years of wreaking havoc on my academic aspirations, a big black hole on my transcript has just been rendered null and void. My academic appeal hearing this morning went very well -- to the point that they didn't even need to speak with me.
The appeal committee read my letter about how, during the 1995-1996 academic year, I was incapacitated by illness. They read the letter from the doctor, and they decided to suppress my marks from that year. The string of Fs will still show on the transcript, but they'll have a notation beside them, and they will not be used in the calculation of my average. It'll take about a week for my GPA to reflect the change, but I couldn't be happier with how the meeting went.
I definitely needed this bit of good news. The last two weeks have been a little rough, to say the least.
