The wrong kind of creative?

Why is it that whenever I should be writing, I always start creating something else?

I stayed up late again last night, not writing this time, but instead making postcards for my Zazzle shop. The postcards are created from original photographs of an area where I grew up in rural New Brunswick. I found making them very therapeutic, as if they were somehow allowing me to get back to my "happy place".

And then this morning, I opened up my email digest for an artsy group I belong to, and there's something else piquing my interest. (And of course, it's not writing either.)

Ever heard of Zentangles? Nope, me either, until this morning.

According to their website, "Zentangle is an easy to learn and relaxing method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity. Zentangle provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well being. Zentangle is enjoyed by a wide range of skills and ages and is used in many fields of interest."

They look really interesting. (Actually, they remind me a lot of the doodles that my husband does.) If you do a Google search for zentangles, you get all kinds of responses. Same thing for Flickr. Very interesting indeed.

So, in the tradition of my approach to NaNoWriMo, I think maybe I'll be picking up a black pen today and seeing what I come up with!
