Mixed Media Monday - Rust

Okay, technically my piece isn't "mixed-media": it's digital.

Having said that, I really don't have the time or materials handy to create an actual handmade piece along the theme of rust. (Besides, it sounds messier than I want to get today! *grin*)

I did, however, want to create something along this theme, and she's awfully cute.

Mixed Media Monday - Whimsy

A few years ago, I was filling in for an art teacher, and the assignment a particular class had to do was "a visual pun". At the time, I got this picture in my head, but didn't get around to executing it until much later.

I think I like the fact that it's escaping the frame, even more than I like the green and purple (my favourite colour combination) wings.

(Although I've now got the "Days of Our Lives" theme stuck in my head -- a particular blast from the past I didn't need! *grin*)

This ATC is created using cheap acrylic paint on basic watercolour paper, with a fine-tipped Sharpie thrown in for fun.

Mixed Media Monday - Gold

I went through a phase where I chopped up interesting images out of every National Geographic I could find. (Truth be told, if you handed me one now, I'd probably do the same thing.)

I raided my stash of clippings today to work on the Mixed Media Monday challenge of "Gold" and found the pocket watch and hand, which I then glued to a black and white background. Then I used gold brads and gold ink direct-to-paper, and, well, here it is!

(The handwriting is mine, using a brown Micron pen.)

I'm really happy with this one. I was saving that image for just the right "occasion", and I guess this was it!

Mixed Media Monday -- Buttons

So, I recently stumbled across a new-to-me challenge site called Mixed Media Monday, and since I was home today, I decided to check out today's challenge. (I've decided to try checking out my "Weekly Inspiration" links as often as possible.)

Today's challenge was "Buttons" -- to use buttons somehow in your piece of mixed media artwork. So I dug through my stash, knowing that I went through a button phase, and found exactly what I was looking for: some of the teeniest, tiniest buttons you'll ever see on this planet, along with some thumbnail-sized pink flower buttons.

I'm not exactly sure that the recurrence of my migraine was unrelated to placing teeny-tiny buttons on little tiny gobs of rather stinky glue, but hey. It was fun. Add some coloured pencil to the background, and voila! You get this ATC.

It's simple, but I like it.
